Can meditation for
weight loss be a real thing?

Meditation for weight loss -  what's the theory behind this, and does it have any basis in evidence based science?

Much of the top ranking advice you can find online about this issue of weight loss and meditation, essentially says the same thing.

What's the advice?

Meditation for weight loss
Summarised consensus of online advice

Here's the general consensus of advice (paraphrased):-

"When stressed the body produces a hormone called cortisol.  This hormone blocks any release of fat cells, no matter what other healthy choices you may be making."

So, in a nutshell, the advice is that a stress hormone called cortisol which is modulated by stress and anxiety is the culprit.

However, this conclusion is not backed up by official .gov research (source).  The evidence at the moment is sketchy at best.

Then, the general (and not very helpful) advice then goes on to say that in order to lose weight you have to do meditation several times a week to lessen the cortisol levels before you do any of your other healthy choice activities like exercising and being careful about your nutrition and calorie intake.

too busy?

Like as if the average person can do that timetable!  Don't you just love advice like that?

Oh, and then you might be then advised to take some supplement that lowers cortisol levels.

So, how about a more sensible approach to this issue of cortisol  and 'meditation for weight loss' until such a time that new evidence comes along to prove the case?

As the average person has a tight timetable, so we present a class that emphasises both meditation/mindfulness together with specially developed mat-work geared towards toning the body through body-weight challenges.
